The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), has assured students that the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is being addressed by the Ondo State Government.
The management also urged students to remain calm and patient, saying the intervention initiated by the state government would resolve the issues surrounding the strike.
The university stated this while reacting to a purported 72-hour ultimatum issued by the Students' Union Executive to the state government, demanding urgent action to end the ongoing industrial action by academic staff of the institution.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Sola Imoru, the university management said the strike was being addressed through a special intervention fund approved by the Governor of Ondo State and Visitor to the university, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
According to the statement, the intervention fund, which is currently being processed for release, would enable the university to meet its financial obligations and address the issues contributing to the industrial action.
"Management considers the ultimatum unnecessary as the Governor of Ondo State and Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has already approved a special intervention fund to enable the University to meet its financial obligations," the statement said.
The management added that the development had already been discussed with the leadership of the Students' Union.
It, therefore, appealed to the students to remain calm and exercise patience while the payment processes initiated by the state government were being concluded.
"Management, therefore, appeals to all students to remain calm and exercise patience while the payment processes initiated by the Visitor to the University are being concluded," it stated.
The university management also urged the Students' Union leadership to always seek clarification from the institution before making public pronouncements on issues affecting the university.
"The University Management encourages the Students' Union leadership to always seek clarification on matters affecting the University before making public pronouncements," the statement added.
Management stressed that it remained committed to constructive engagement with the Students' Union and other stakeholders, noting that dialogue remained the most effective approach to resolving issues of mutual concern.
The university reaffirmed its commitment to good university governance, transparency and sustained engagement with all stakeholders, while expressing optimism that the ongoing processes would lead to the resolution of the issues surrounding the strike.
