The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged vandalism and theft of electrical installations at the General Hospital, Igbotako, in Ondo State.

In a statement issued by the Command, the arrest followed a report received on 6th May, 2026, from a concerned citizen who alerted the police to suspicious activities within the hospital premises.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, one of the suspects, identified as Promise Godspower, allegedly gained unlawful access to the hospital and vandalised electrical installations before carting away electrical cables.

The act reportedly caused damage to critical infrastructure within the facility, disrupting essential services meant for public healthcare delivery.

Following the report, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene where preliminary investigations were carried out and relevant evidence, including photographic documentation of the damaged installations, was obtained.

Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested the suspect, who reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The investigation further revealed alleged negligence on the part of a security personnel attached to the hospital, identified as Pogbara Sigalo, who was said to have abandoned his duty post at the time of the incident.

The police stated that the lapse created an opportunity for the vandalism to occur. The security officer has also been taken into custody for questioning over alleged dereliction of duty and possible connivance.

The Command confirmed that the stolen electrical cables have been recovered, while investigations are ongoing to determine whether other accomplices were involved.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the incident and warned against negligence among security personnel, stressing that such conduct undermines public safety and the protection of government assets.

He assured that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

The Nigeria Police Force also reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and warned against acts of vandalism, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
