Hon. Akinbowale Ogbonlaye has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Akoko South West Constituency II in the Ondo State House of Assembly election ahead of the 2027 general polls.

Ogbonlaye secured victory in the party’s primary election held on Thursday across the constituency, defeating Hon. Adeniyi Fasanmi with a wide margin.

The Akungba-Akoko-born politician polled 634 votes, while his closest rival, Fasanmi, garnered 187 votes in the keenly contested exercise.

Party members and supporters described the outcome of the primary as a clear endorsement of Ogbonlaye’s growing popularity and acceptance among the people of the constituency.

The PDP candidate had earlier, on May 2, 2026, formally declared his intention to contest for the Assembly seat under the platform of the PDP during an event held in Supare Akoko.

Following his declaration, he proceeded to obtain the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms as part of preparations for the primary election.

Speaking shortly after he was declared winner, Ogbonlaye expressed gratitude to party faithful and supporters for their confidence in him and for turning out in large numbers to vote.

He acknowledged the challenges confronting the constituency and assured residents of his commitment to quality representation and people-oriented leadership if elected.

Ogbonlaye also noted that the journey ahead would require unity, dedication and collective support from stakeholders and party members across the constituency.

According to him, victory at the 2027 general election is achievable with sustained cooperation and grassroots mobilisation.

Supporters who celebrated his emergence described him as a grassroots politician with the capacity to effectively represent the interests of the constituency at the state legislature.

The PDP candidate is expected to square up against candidates of other political parties in the 2027 Ondo State House of Assembly election.
