The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has joined Nigerians, particularly indigenes of Akure and Ondo State, in celebrating elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, as he marks his 100th birthday.

In a statement signed by the council chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, and secretary, Comrade Olaoluwa Meshack, the NUJ described the centenarian’s milestone as a remarkable celebration of a life defined by resilience, wisdom, and enduring service to humanity.

The union noted that Pa Fasoranti’s 100th birthday goes beyond longevity, describing it as a testimony to a legacy built on simplicity, discipline, kindness, and unwavering commitment to public service and nation-building.

According to the NUJ, the Afenifere leader remains a beacon of unity and a custodian of democratic ideals whose life of mentorship and sacrifice continues to inspire generations across Ondo State and Nigeria.

The statement further described him as one of the founding fathers of modern Ondo politics and one of the last surviving disciples of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, under whose ideological influence he played active roles in the Action Group (AG), Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), and later the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

The NUJ stressed that Pa Fasoranti’s political journey reflects a consistent commitment to progressive governance and democratic principles, which have remained a reference point in the South-West political landscape.

Beyond politics, the union also highlighted his contributions to education and human capital development, noting his long service as a teacher and educationist who invested significantly in the growth of learning institutions in Ondo State.

It recalled his establishment of schools such as Omolere Nursery and Primary School, Akure High School, and St. Frances’ Academy, which he founded in honour of his late wife, as part of his enduring commitment to educational development.

The NUJ also noted his strong academic background, which spans the University College, Ibadan (now University of Ibadan), the University of Hull in the United Kingdom, and Maguire University in Sydney, Australia, describing it as the foundation of his intellectual and leadership strength.

While congratulating the centenarian, the union called on the Ondo State Government to immortalise Pa Fasoranti by naming a prominent public school after him, in recognition of his immense contributions to education, politics, and societal development in the state.

The NUJ concluded by praying for his continued good health and longevity, describing him as a living legend whose century-long impact will remain a guiding light for present and future generations.
