The Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Hon. Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, has commended the pace and quality of work on the 28.5-kilometre Aboto–Atijere Road, describing the project as a major infrastructural breakthrough for oil-producing communities in Ondo State.

Poroye gave the commendation during an inspection visit to the project site, where he confirmed that the road has now reached about 50 per cent completion, with approximately 15 kilometres already opened up for construction progress.

He expressed satisfaction with the contractor’s performance, noting that the level of commitment on site reflects the seriousness of the state government’s development agenda aimed at improving connectivity in riverine and coastal communities.

“As regards the Aboto–Atijere Road, one thing is certain: when you walk with a determined mind, you can never be disappointed. The Governor is determined to complete this project and the contractor is equally determined,” Poroye stated.

He added that the visible progress on the road had further strengthened public confidence in government’s efforts to open up the oil-producing areas for economic growth and improved transportation.

“When we got here today, we were happy with what we met on ground. They have covered 15 kilometres already and with the speed they are going, we are sure they will do us proud,” he said, assuring continued institutional support for the project.

Providing technical updates, the Director of Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr. Dipo Aluko, confirmed that the project had reached the halfway mark, with significant progress recorded in both structural and earthworks components.

According to him, stone base installation has been completed across 10.7 kilometres, while drainage and earthworks, including art works, have progressed to about 14 kilometres of the road alignment.

He further disclosed that the contractor has been directed to begin asphalt laying on completed stone base sections, which currently cover about four kilometres, marking a key phase in the project’s execution.

Aluko also noted that the Aboto–Atijere Road project has undergone an upward review, a development he said would enhance the speed and quality of delivery and ensure timely completion in line with government expectations.

The Aboto–Atijere Road is widely regarded as a strategic infrastructure corridor that will boost commerce, improve mobility, and enhance socio-economic activities across communities in the oil-producing axis of the state.
