There was panic in Supare-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Thursday after a man allegedly killed his mother in a violent incident that shocked residents of the community.

The suspect, identified simply as Ife, is said to have attacked his mother, a health officer, at their residence shortly after she returned home in the afternoon.

Residents said the development came as a rude shock, as the victim was reportedly going about her normal activities before the attack occurred.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect was earlier seen moving around with a stick and had told residents he intended to use it for cooking when questioned. Some residents also claimed he had previously shown signs of unusual and aggressive behaviour.

The incident plunged the community into panic, with residents gathering in groups to discuss the tragic development.

Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, reportedly arrived at the scene, arrested the suspect, and evacuated the victim’s body.

Some community sources further alleged that the suspect may have been involved in substance abuse, although this has not been confirmed by authorities.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
