‎...Reaffirms commitment to staff welfare, uninterrupted healthcare services

‎The management of the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTA Teaching Hospital) has called for peaceful resolution of its ongoing dispute with the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), Ondo State Council, amid rising concerns over a planned industrial action.
‎
‎The union had earlier threatened to embark on strike from April 8, 2026, citing unresolved issues with the hospital management.
‎
‎NUAHP alleged several infractions, including the removal of staff names from nominal rolls, forced transfers, scrapping of departments, controversial appointments, and cases of intimidation and oppression of workers.
‎
‎The union also claimed that repeated efforts at dialogue had failed, prompting its decision to withdraw services across affected health institutions in the state.
‎
‎In response, the hospital management dismissed the allegations as unfounded and misleading.
‎
‎In a statement issued by the Head of Public Relations, Tope Fayehun, the institution insisted that its operations are guided by established federal regulations governing teaching hospitals across Nigeria.
‎
‎The management said all decisions taken by the current leadership are aimed at improving service delivery, strengthening coordination, and ensuring efficient healthcare delivery to patients.
‎
‎It categorically denied all allegations leveled against the Chief Medical Director and the management, including claims of arbitrary staff removal, forced transfers, departmental scrapping, demotions, intimidation, and oppression.
‎
‎According to the statement, the allegations do not reflect the internal processes of the institution, which it described as transparent and collaborative.
‎
‎The statement reads partly "The Management of Futa Teaching Hospital, Akure, notes the recent notice of withdrawal of service given by the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), Ondo State Council.

‎"We remain fully committed to the welfare of our staff, the delivery of world-class healthcare, and elevating Futa Teaching Hospital to the customary standards of the leading teaching hospitals in Nigeria and beyond.
‎
‎"Futa Teaching Hospital operates strictly within the established frameworks and best practises that are applicable to all Federal Teaching Hospitals across the country. Every action taken by the current Management aligns with these standards which are aimed at optimising service delivery for patients who travel from far and wide, seeking quality care.
‎
‎"We categorically deny all allegations levelled against the Chief Medical Director (CMD) and Management, including claims of arbitrary staff removals, forceful transfers, department scrapping, capricious demotions, inappropriate appointments, intimidation, or oppression.
‎
‎"These assertions are unfounded, misleading, and do not accurately reflect the collaborative and transparent processes in place and which are acclaimed by the other workers. Before the ceding of the old hospital to the Federal Government and the appointment of the current Management, the people of Ondo State and beyond would testify that the hospital had struggled, hampered by inefficiencies that fueled health tourism and compelled residents to seek treatment outside the state."

‎It added that with support from the Federal Ministry of Health, it is currently upgrading facilities, strengthening oversight, and improving coordination across departments.

‎While appealing for calm, the management urged NUAHP leadership and members to embrace dialogue and make use of existing dispute resolution channels rather than resorting to industrial action.
‎
‎FUTA Teaching Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare and assured that it remains focused on delivering uninterrupted, patient-centred healthcare services despite the ongoing tension.
