The Oodua Progressive Youth League (OPYL) has called on the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to urgently intervene in the crisis rocking the party in Ondo State, following the conduct of its State Congress despite a restraining order issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Akure.

In a statement signed on Wednesday by its General Secretary, Wale Abdulwaheed, the youth group described the situation as “deeply concerning,” warning that failure to act promptly could push the party into deeper internal conflict.

OPYL noted that holding the congress amid a subsisting court order has generated tension and uncertainty among party members in the state. 

The group said the defiance of the court injunction has heightened divisions, with some factions reportedly threatening to form parallel structures or pursue legal action.

“The APC is a law-abiding party built on democratic principles. It has always projected itself as a party that respects the rule of law and constitutional order. That reputation must not be compromised under any circumstance,” the statement said.

It added: “Respect for judicial pronouncements is not negotiable. As a ruling party, the APC must lead by example. Obedience to court orders strengthens democracy and reinforces public confidence in our institutions.”

OPYL warned that if the disputes arising from the congress are not properly managed, they could escalate into prolonged litigation, factional splits, and political instability within the state chapter.

The group stressed that decisive action by the party’s National Working Committee would help restore calm, enforce discipline, and reassure members of the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and the rule of law.

“It is imperative that the national leadership steps in immediately to prevent a total breakdown of discipline. Allowing the crisis to fester will damage the party’s image and could create long-term divisions that are difficult to repair,” the statement said.

OPYL urged aggrieved members to remain calm and allow internal party mechanisms to resolve the dispute, emphasizing that dialogue, reconciliation, and respect for legal processes are the surest paths to lasting peace.

The youth body concluded that prompt intervention from the national leadership is essential to prevent further division, prolonged litigation, and potential fragmentation of the Ondo APC chapter.
