A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and House of Representatives aspirant for Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, Ajibola Kolawole Adetula, has called for the reintroduction of farm settlements as part of efforts to tackle insecurity and boost food sufficiency in the country.

Adetula, who also serves as Secretary of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), said a modernised farming system would place Nigeria in a more comfortable position in terms of food security and economic growth.

The APC chieftain noted that if governments at all levels provide farmers with modern equipment, improved seedlings and adequate training, the country could witness a significant increase in agricultural productivity and contribution to the Gross Domestic Product.

According to him, many farmers in Ondo State still rely on outdated seedlings with low yields, stressing the need for the introduction of modern varieties capable of producing better harvests.

He also emphasised the importance of training farmers in modern agricultural practices, including irrigation farming, to ensure year-round food production and strengthen the nation’s agricultural value chain.

Adetula further urged government authorities to support small-scale farmers involved in crop production, fishery and poultry farming through capacity building programmes aimed at improving both the quality and quantity of their output.

Speaking on his personal contributions to agriculture, the aspirant disclosed that he operates a large-scale farm in Ekiti State where rice, palm oil and tomatoes are produced.

He added that he plans to facilitate the establishment of a dairy cluster at Isuada in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State to promote milk and beef production if elected.

Meanwhile, Adetula has unveiled a comprehensive seven-point agenda designed to accelerate development across the Owo/Ose Federal Constituency.

The development blueprint, titled “Next Chapter of Progress and Development,” outlines key interventions in security, employment, education, infrastructure, agriculture and social development.

On security, the APC aspirant pledged to support security agencies with patrol vehicles and modern communication equipment while collaborating with local governments and stakeholders to strengthen intelligence gathering and surveillance.

He also promised to promote community participation in security efforts by mobilising traditional rulers, hunters and vigilante groups to support the protection of lives and property.

As part of his job creation strategy, Adetula proposed the establishment of job centres to connect youths with employment opportunities while also providing platforms for vocational training and skills acquisition.

He explained that beneficiaries would be trained in trades such as electrical installation, plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying and digital skills including graphic design and product management.

Adetula also identified education and human capital development as a priority area, promising the construction and renovation of schools as well as the provision of learning materials to enhance teaching and learning in public institutions.

He added that scholarships would be offered to outstanding students while candidates preparing for national examinations would receive support through the provision of registration forms for examinations conducted by bodies such as JAMB and WAEC.

In the area of health and social development, the aspirant pledged to facilitate the provision of modern medical equipment and drugs to federal medical centres and primary healthcare facilities serving the constituency.

He also promised to promote youth engagement through sports competitions and community programmes aimed at strengthening social cohesion and stimulating local economic activities.

Adetula said the seven-point agenda reflects his commitment to inclusive representation and people-oriented governance, noting that collaboration with government institutions and development partners would be key to delivering meaningful development to the people of Owo/Ose Federal Constituency.
