The Ondo State chapter of the Niger Delta Youth Movement has declared its support for a centralised approach to oil pipeline security, throwing its weight behind Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited as a model for effective surveillance across the Niger Delta.

The group made its position known during a press conference held in Igbokoda, the administrative headquarters of Ilaje Local Government Area, where leaders stressed the need for a unified system to safeguard critical oil infrastructure and curb illegal activities.

Addressing journalists, the Ondo State Chairman of the movement, Comrade Busayo Ebiniyi, commended Tantita’s operational strategy, describing it as proactive and impactful in tackling pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft. 

He noted that the company’s presence has significantly reduced incidents of economic sabotage in the region.

Ebiniyi also praised the leadership of Government Oweizidei Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for deploying well-trained personnel and strengthening surveillance mechanisms that have improved security across oil-producing communities.

He further acknowledged the efforts of the Ondo State Coordinator of Tantita, Senior High Chief Idowu Asonja, whose commitment, according to him, has contributed to the protection of oil assets and stability in the state.

Other stakeholders in the movement, including Comrade Meduoye Afani Saje and Comrade Peter Tawose, aligned with the chairman’s position, citing improved safety and reduced cases of illegal bunkering since the commencement of Tantita’s operations.

The group emphasised that adopting a centralised surveillance framework would eliminate fragmentation among security agencies, enhance coordination, and ensure more effective monitoring of pipelines across the Niger Delta.

According to the NDYM, a unified system would not only strengthen infrastructure protection but also minimise revenue losses associated with crude oil theft, thereby boosting national earnings.

They called on relevant authorities and stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to consider expanding the Tantita model across the region to ensure consistency and efficiency in pipeline security operations.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and development in the Niger Delta, the movement urged continued collaboration between host communities, security agencies, and private operators to sustain the gains recorded so far.
