An Akure-based woman, Sandra Osatuyi, has raised the alarm over the mysterious death of two of her children and the alleged disappearance of her third daughter.

Osatuyi said the three girls had been living with their father, Mr. Olofintayo Moses Akinpelumi Adekunle, who divorced her in 2000 before relocating from Akure to Ibadan with the children.

Adekunle, an indigene of Idanre in Ondo State, later remarried and the woman became the children’s stepmother.

Trouble, however, began last Wednesday when two of the children, Olofintayo Prosper, 14, and Olofintayo Elizabeth, 12, alongside their stepmother, reportedly died after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance under unclear circumstances at their residence in the Eleta area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking on the development, the distraught mother said that after the burial of the two children in Ibadan, all attempts to take custody of her remaining daughter, Olofintayo Precious-Praise, 18, had failed, accusing her former husband of keeping the girl away from her.

She said she had reported the matter to the Oyo State Police Command, which directed that the surviving daughter be released to her.

“I am appealing to Nigerians to intervene and help me ask Moses Olofintayo about the whereabouts of my remaining child. The police asked him to release her to me, but since last week I have not seen Precious, my daughter,” she said.

Osatuyi also called on the government and human rights advocates to assist in ensuring the safety of the remaining child.
The Oyo State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
