Tension gripped communities around the Akure Airport on Monday as schools in the area closed abruptly following security concerns linked to reported gunshots.
Parents reportedly rushed to various schools in communities around Ilu Abo to pick up their children after reports of sporadic gunshots around 10:00 a.m., which created panic among residents and school authorities.
Sources said the incident was connected to the alleged abduction of the Managing Director of a commercial farm, Joseph Aladetuyi, who was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Kajola village in Ilu Abo, a community located close to the airport.
The development heightened fears among residents of neighbouring communities, as many parents hurriedly withdrew their children from schools while security concerns continued to mount in the area.
