‎A coalition of community leaders, youth groups, women’s organisations and traditional rulers in Ondo South Senatorial District has endorsed Isaacs Kekemeke for the district’s senatorial seat, urging him to contest in the next general election.

‎The endorsement was announced at the end of the group’s quarterly meeting held in Okitipupa on Tuesday, with participants drawn from the six local government areas of the district, Okitipupa, Ilaje, Ese Odo, Irele, Odigbo and Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo.

‎Speaking after the meeting, the group’s coordinator, Raphael Ebiwonjumi, said the decision to back Kekemeke was informed by his capacity to address longstanding development challenges in the area.

‎He noted that Kekemeke’s leadership experience and track record position him as a suitable candidate to complement the development efforts of Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

‎Ebiwonjumi stressed the need for competent and experienced leaders to occupy strategic positions at the National Assembly, noting that such representation is key to advancing both state and national development.

‎According to him, the legislature requires individuals who are politically mature, innovative and capable of delivering tangible results for their constituents.

‎The coalition highlighted Kekemeke’s blend of political experience, private sector exposure and extensive networks, stating that these qualities would enhance legislative oversight and support the passage of impactful laws.

‎It added that his emergence in the Senate would strengthen ongoing efforts to modernise governance, improve infrastructure and accelerate economic empowerment programmes in Ondo State.

‎“We need quality leaders who have proven their mettle in public service to take up strategic roles and collaborate with the current administration to move the state forward,” Ebiwonjumi said.

‎“Ondo South has suffered inadequate representation for too long. We need a senator who listens, acts and delivers results for all communities. Kekemeke has demonstrated through his leadership and community engagements that he is the right person for the job.”

‎The group also cited his previous roles, including Commissioner for Works, Chairman of NECO and former Ondo APC chairman, describing his performance in those positions as outstanding.

‎They further aligned his potential candidacy with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in areas such as digital development, innovation and economic growth.

‎The coalition noted that Kekemeke’s experience in grassroots mobilisation and policy coordination across the South-West equips him with the skills needed to effectively negotiate and advocate for Ondo South at the federal level.

‎It also pointed to his involvement in initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, education and healthcare services in local communities.

‎The group, however, called on Governor Aiyedatiwa to support the aspiration by encouraging Kekemeke to contest the senatorial seat.

‎They further emphasised his engagement in youth development programmes and efforts to create opportunities for skills acquisition and employment.

‎“A senator must unite the people and represent all interests fairly. We believe Kekemeke has the capacity to ensure Ondo South’s voice is heard in Abuja,” the coalition added.

‎Although Kekemeke has yet to formally declare his intention to run, sources close to him said he is honoured by the endorsement and will consult widely with stakeholders and party leaders before taking a final decision.
