The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspected fraudsters over an alleged fake miracle scam in Idanre, in what authorities described as a major breakthrough in the state’s ongoing crackdown on fraud-related offences.

The suspects were apprehended on February 16, 2026, following what the police said was a well-coordinated, intelligence-driven operation carried out by the Command’s Tactical Teams in collaboration with Community Safety Officers (CSOs).

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed the activities of a suspected fraud syndicate operating within Idanre and its environs.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly posed as pastors and religious leaders, staging fake miracles and spiritual interventions to gain the trust of unsuspecting members of the public.

Police said the group allegedly exploited the faith and emotional vulnerabilities of victims by promising divine solutions to financial, health and personal challenges, only to defraud them through various forms of obtaining by false pretence.

The suspects were identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola and Ademola, all male.
Investigators further revealed that the suspects allegedly operated in a coordinated manner, assigning specific roles among themselves to create what was described as a structured and convincing façade of legitimacy.

“The operation followed credible information about their activities. Further investigation is ongoing to ascertain the total number of victims, determine the financial magnitude of the fraud and identify other collaborators who may still be at large,” the police spokesman said.

All six suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Command cautioned members of the public to exercise due diligence and avoid falling prey to individuals who use religion, spirituality or claims of miracles as a cover for criminal activities.

Residents were advised to verify claims before making financial commitments and to promptly report suspicious gatherings or demands to the nearest police station.

The police reiterated their resolve to rid the state of criminal elements, stressing that sustained intelligence gathering, community partnership and strategic operations would continue to drive efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across Ondo State.
