Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has commissioned a six-kilometre Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) road in Igbokoda and flagged off an 8.5-kilometre dual carriageway project in Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
The dual carriageway, which runs from college road through Okoga Junction to Irewole roundabout in Igbokoda, is designed to improve traffic flow and enhance road safety within the coastal town and adjoining communities.
Speaking at the commissioning of the NDDC Road, Aiyedatiwa described the project as a historic milestone that goes beyond physical infrastructure, saying it would ease daily life and open up economic opportunities for residents across the Ilaje axis.
He said the act was part of efforts to boost connectivity and socio-economic development in the state’s riverine communities.
According to him, the road will enhance mobility within Igbokoda and neighbouring communities, serving as a catalyst for regional integration and socio-economic advancement in the southern senatorial district.
“Our primary objective has always been your comfort and safety. We envisioned a road that would endure the test of time, minimise recurrent maintenance, and guarantee secure and swift journeys for all who use it,” the governor said.
He noted that the project was executed with consideration for the terrain and seasonal flooding peculiar to the riverine environment.
He added that the NDDC road forms part of a broader development agenda initiated within his first year in office, citing the completion of 14 kilometres of roads across Okitipupa, Irele and Igbotako as evidence of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal.
At the flag-off ceremony for the 8.5-kilometre dual carriageway, Aiyedatiwa described the project as a modern urban arterial corridor that would reduce travel time, lower vehicle operating costs and stimulate commerce and investment inflows in the coastal region.
He said upgrading the corridor to dual carriageway standard aligns with his administration’s agenda of connectivity, economic accessibility and inclusive growth.
Aiyedayiwa added that the project would also enhance land value, improve access to public services and generate employment during and after construction.
The governor assured residents of timely completion of other ongoing projects in the southern senatorial district.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Ayorinde Olawoye, said the six-kilometre NDDC Road has an average width of 10.3 metres and meets required engineering standards.
